Clif Flynt has been invited to speak at events in the US, Europe and South America. He speaks at local LUG meetings, has been a mentor for Google Summer of Code and helps organize the annual US Tcl User's Conference.

Tcl/Tk: A Developer's Guide - 3'd Edition

Third Edition Released

The third edition of Tcl/Tk for Real Programmers was published in spring of 2012.

It includes over 150 new pages introducing TclOO, Tcl Modules, Threading and more.

Ohio Linux Fest
The Ohio LinuxFest is held in Columbus OH.

  • In 2011 Clif Flynt described how to write games with Tcl/Tk.
  • In 2010 Clif presented an introduction to SQL and SQLite to about 200 people.
FOSDEM 6: Feb 2006
The Sixth FOSDEM was held once again in Brussels.

  • Clif Flynt presented an introduction to Tcl/Tk to 20 or 30 attendees, discussed using Tcl for large scale simulations, gaming and other applications.
FOSDEM 4: Feb 2004
The Fourth FOSDEM was held once again in Brussels. A dozen or so hard-core Tcl'ers attended and presented how-to papers describing how to use Tcl in common and uncommon ways and introduced Tcl/Tk to several newcomers.

  • Clif Flynt presented an introduction to Tcl/Tk and a discussion of the C API to Tcl.
  • Arjen Markus described clever techniques for using the text widget.
  • Theo Verelst demonstrated B-Wise, a block oriented programming technique written in Tcl.
  • Jeff Hobbs discussed the current (Active) State of Tcl.
  • Reinhard Max demonstrated how easy it is to write a client-server application in Tcl by developing a chat server while we watched (Clif Flynt and Donal Fellows developed clients for the server as the protocol was defined.)
  • Peter.DeRijk described ClassyTk, an object oriented approach to creating Tk applications.

It was a good chance for folks to meet and chat. We intend to return to FOSDEM with a more organized presence next year.
Rubicon 4
Rubicon was a computer conference for security experts on both sides of the equation, the attackers and the defenders. The presentations I listened to were excellent, discussing topics that ranged from the history of BBSs to tutorials on firewall configuration, explanations of elliptical curve cryptography and passing drug tests.

Second Edition Released

The second edition of Tcl/Tk for Real Programmers was published in spring of 2003 under the new title Tcl/Tk: A Developer's Guide (2'nd Edition.

My thanks to the folks who helped make this happen.

Tcl/Tk for Real Programmers was published by Academic Press in 1999. This book introduces the experienced programmer to the Tcl language and the Tk graphics extension to Tcl.

It's received positive reviews from many readers.

FOSDEM 3: Feb 8,9 2003
FOSDEM meetings are recognised as the best Free and Open Source events in Europe.

The third Free and Open source Software Developers' European Meeting was a 2 day event, organized by volunteers, to promote the widespread use of Free and Open Source software.

Clif Flynt presented two sessions,

  • An Introduction to Tcl/Tk
    Introduce the basics of Tcl and Tk.
  • Controlling applications with Tcl/Tk.
    Describe techniques for controlling applications and constructing professional looking GUIs.
