Red Barn, South Crouse, May I Help you?

The Red Barn - A Syracuse University Tradition for over 5 years

The 1960's and 1970's means different things to different folks. For some, the 1960's is typified by the pre-Beatles Happy Days era of innocence, for others, the 1960's means Incense, Peppermint, The Summer of Love, WoodStock, and all that.

In the same way, some folks think of the 1970's as the early part of the 70's, the anti-war protests, Kent State, acid and grass, while others think of the end of the 70's, the "Me" generation, double digit inflation, and Disco.

When some of us think of the 70's, we think of a BarnBuster, Fries and a Coke.

There were a bunch of kids in the early 70's that all started working at the Red Barn Restaurant between '69 and '74, pushed a lot of burgers, made a lot of jokes, and basicly came of age just off the Syracuse University campus.

Time passes, as did most of us, and we graduated from our various schools, went our various ways, and some of us lost contact with everyone else, while others kept in touch with everyone they could find.

In 1999, two of the keep-in-touchers (George Wallace and Jim Strauss, strangely enough, both grill-men) decided that we needed to have another party. It had been 25 years, so why the hell not?

Tony Fair was silly enough to let them use his house, and George and Jim were off.

These intrepid sleuths managed to track down over 20 of the old crowd, including our favorite managers (most of us ended up managing at least once before we graduated out of the Red Barn.) for an afternoon and evening of catching up and telling funny tales.

And, since the web is perfect for stuff that nobody except a few rabid fans would be interested in, here's the highlights of our Red Barn experiences, and photo's from the 25 year (more or less) reunion (Mostly courtesy of Patti Shorter).
